Hanover Buses Stop for Two Days as ver.di Widens Its Warning Strikes

The Hanover buses stop today and tomorrow as the ver.di union widens its warning strikes at the regional bus operator regiobus. Every regiobus service is called out on Sunday 8 November and Monday 9 November, from the start of operations to the end of the day.

Hanover buses stop — regiobus warning strikess

The stoppage hits the whole Hanover region, including the express sprintH lines 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 and 900 that link the towns around Hanover with the city centre. The only regiobus journeys still running are those operated by subcontractors, which are not part of the strike.

Monday brings a second front. Staff at the ÜSTRA depot in Mittelfeld are joining the action in solidarity, so Hanover’s own city buses will be affected too. ÜSTRA says delays and cancellations are possible on lines 100, 200, 120, 121, 123, 124, 125, 127, 128, 129, 130, 134, 137, 330, 340, 341, 346, 363, 371, 372, 373, 390, 581, 631 and 800. Which journeys actually run will only be clear on the morning itself, in the ÜSTRA app and the online journey planner.

What still runs: Hanover’s Stadtbahn light rail is not affected and runs normally, and neither are S-Bahn and regional trains or the on-demand sprinti service. Regular ÜSTRA buses run as normal on Sunday; only Monday is affected in the city.

The dispute is over pay. Ver.di is negotiating the railway pay agreement (ETV) and wants a 6.5% pay rise, €100 a month more for trainees and a €650 annual bonus for union members. Warning strikes have already hit individual regiobus depots this week — Neustadt, Wunstorf, Mellendorf and Burgdorf on Monday and Wednesday — and the union has now extended the action to the whole company. The next round of talks is on 16 November. Sunday is also a shopping Sunday in Hanover, and ver.di has called the day a “stay-at-home” strike.

What to do about the Hanover Buses Stop

  • Check the ÜSTRA app or uestra.de on the morning of travel — the list of journeys actually running is only published then.
  • Use the Stadtbahn, S-Bahn or regional trains instead of the bus where you can.
  • Allow much more time than usual for any journey that needs a bus, and expect replacement services to be busy.

Before you travel, check your trip against the Hanover Buses Stop dates, 8 and 9 November. Germany has other disruption too, and the Hanover Buses Stop is not the only one: see the Gemünden–Aschaffenburg line closure, which runs until 12 December.
